How Do I Cancel My Rental?

Canceling a rental is easy too! With our month to month agreement, you can cancel anytime.

To cancel, the unit must be cleaned, emptied and left unlocked. Our staff cannot inspect the unit if it is locked and therefore will reinstate the rental if the unit is found locked or with contents still in the unit.  We do not prorate the final month of rent. You have until 11:59 P.M. on the final day of the month to cancel, no advanced notice is required. To terminate your rental simply log into your account at  From the home page: Choose to ‘View’ the Unit you’d like to cancel. Select ‘Cancel Rental’. You’ll be asked to confirm you’ve emptied the unit and left it unlocked. Once you confirm, you’ll receive an email confirmation reflecting the cancelation. Our staff will inspect the unit within 5 business days, you will receive one final confirmation that your agreement is fully terminated. If the unit is found unclean, we will charge $50 to the credit card on file.

If you need assistance with canceling your rental, please contact us at (231)683-2003.

What size unit is best for me?

You are the best judge of how much space you need! We’ve created this guide below to help you visualize the dimensions of a unit. We recommend creating a list of items you’ll be storing ahead of renting a unit. Consider how many boxes you anticipate having and rough dimensions of the larger items you’ll store.

Keep in mind this is just a guide:

5 x 10 units (50 square feet): Size is equivalent to a walk in closet! Contents of an average size bedroom should fit. An average of 20 medium to large boxes. Small furniture. Ideal for outdoor furniture, kayaks or small seasonal equipment.

10 x 10 units (100 square feet): Size is equivalent to an average bedroom! Contents of a 1 bedroom apartment or general living area of a small home should fit. An average of 50 medium to large boxes. Ideal for furniture storage, outdoor furniture or seasonal equipment.

10 x 15 units (150 square feet): Size is equivalent to a large bedroom! Contents of a 2 bedroom apartment should fit. An average of 60 medium to large boxes. Ideal for home appliances, furniture, motorcycles or small vehicles.

10 x 20 units (200 square feet): Size is equivalent to an average living room! Contents of a 3 bedroom apartment or equivalent sized home should fit. An average of 125 medium to large boxes. Ideal for home appliances, living room furniture, tv’s. This size unit is also ideal for some vehicles — Be sure to measure the width, length and height of your vehicle before renting!

10×30 units (300 square feet): Size is equivalent to an average 2 car garage! Contents of a 1200-1800 sq. ft. home should fit. Unit is ideal for holding the entire contents of your home – including furniture, appliances, beds and neatly packed boxes. This size unit is also ideal for larger vehicles.

Why use the disc lock we provide?

We feel so strongly about keeping your unit and its contents as secure as possible; with every new rental, we provide a brand new disc lock and keys to you at no additional charge. It is our preference that you utilize this lock for the entirety of your tenancy. Disc locks were specifically designed for the storage unit industry.  Their rounded design is resistant to the average bolt cutters and are hard to open using standard lock-picking techniques. Our locks are solid stainless steel making them rust resistant. We do not have copies of the keys to your packaged lock, so be sure to keep them in a safe, secure place.

FAQ: What Storage Items Are NOT Allowed at Barclay Self Storage?

We want you to find a quick, easy and suitable Sherman self storage unit for all your storage needs. However, please know that there are certain items which we simply cannot allow inside our rental units.

The following list includes but is not limited to items that are strictly prohibited when renting storage space at Sherman Self Storage:

Food and drinks. Please don’t ever, under any circumstances, store food, drinks or any other pest/bug attractant of any kind inside your storage unit. Even if the food/drink is sealed, in a box, plastic bin, etc…this is still not allowed. Alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, gum, candy, baking supplies, dry food such as noodles or cereal, powders, coffee grounds, canned food, produce, grandma’s famous homemade casserole….you get the idea.

Additionally, please do not leave food containers, wrappers, fast food bags, beverage containers or trash of any kind on our property. We do have surveillance, and if we find you littering, bringing food into or leaving food outside your unit, your account will incur a $50 fee.

Flammable items such as gasoline/fuel, kerosene, motor oil, oil based paints, etc…basically nothing that can easily catch on fire. If storing a vehicle, we ask that you check out our blog on Kent County vehicle storage.

Firearms, fireworks or any other explosive. These items are illegal to store in your storage unit and are strictly prohibited, even if obtained legally..

Anything living such as animals, plants, humans, etc.. If you have to feed it or water it, please don’t store it. We’re hoping this one is self explanatory.

Anything illegal. This includes anything stolen, drugs of any kind, or any stolen drugs (prescription or non prescription) of any kind. Please obey the law and don’t store illegal items at our storage facility. Again, please be aware that we have over 40 cameras covering our entire property. Footage can be easily accessed in the case of suspected illegal activity.

Now that we have covered what you can and cannot store inside your storage unit, please know that any cars left outside of your unit unattended will be promptly towed at the owner’s expense.

Thank you for respecting our rules and our property. If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to call us at (231)683-2003.
